ESX Not in Network

Hi,

I am trying to Install in a small LAB environment.

I have installed ESX 3.5 on  a Dell Server and Connected it to a AD Server (Where I have a VM Running VC) directly with a LAN Cable..There is no Router or Switch in between.

Now the problem is the ESX is not able to ping the AD Server nor the VC. But when I install ESX 4.1 in same configuration everything looks fine..But I don't want ESX 4.1.

Could some one please suggest/educate me in this area. Are there any limitation in ESX 3.5 when directly connecting to an other machine.

Thanks

The vSwitch must work in the same way.

Check Configuration / network to see if NIC is connected.

3.5 works just fine being directly connected to another server with a crossover cable.

As Andre mentioned, it is most likely a configuration issue.  Make sure that your vswitch is attached to the nic and not set up as a sort of host only style network .

Also check that they network card is set up as connected or connect on power up.  Without that it will be isolated.

Hope that helps
