ESX 3.x RAM - What is the MAX?

We will be purchasing two blade servers and loading the RAM to the max, 32GB each. Will ESX 3.x see all of RAM and allow us to allocate every kilobyte of it?

Thanks

Hello,

Yes, ESX will see all 32GB. 64GB is the max. The service console will use some and the rest will be available for guests. There is an overhead for guests as well lower the available memory for guests. Memory sharing should more than make up for it though.

ESX 3.x will support up to 64GB of RAM in a host (http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_config_max.pdf)

The Service Console must have RAM allocated to it (272MB by default up to 800MB max) There are also memory and CPU overheads for virtualization (it depends on the amount of resources assigned to a VM as to the level of overhead). See page 128 of the Resource Guide[/url] for more information on Memory overhead.
