ESX 3.5 freezes during fdisk -l command

I ran an fdisk -l on an ESX host to look at the partition sizes, and it froze in the middle and won't let me cancel. The vmkernel log is growing somewhat rapidly with what I am sure are disk related errors. My guess is that a LUN disappeared or was removed improperly from ESX and that is what is causing this issue.

Any thoughts on how to cancel the fdisk? I can see the PID of the fdisk -l command and could kill it, but I'm afraid that will just kill the process and not solve the problem of the forever incrementing vmkernel log. Anyone seen anything like this before?

I'm sure this is going to end in a reboot of the ESX host, but I'd like to try to avoid that if possible.

Try:

1) storage refresh from VI

2) "vmkfstools -V"

3) "esxcfg-rescan <vmhba>"

As much as I'd like to try these steps, they've decided on rebooting the hosts and I don't want to complicate the issue.

Thanks for your help. I will post back if rebooting doesn't resolve this issue.
