ESX 3.5 disconnects intermittently from VI 2.5

Facing a wierd problem and seeking help

We have 8 ESX on out VI, out of which 2 of them get disconnected from the VI intermittantly. They stay disconnected utill someone goes on the console and ping's to any other server on the network. its as if the esx host is sleeping and a ping wakes it up. The VM's on these host are all working and there is not problem with VM's. Just the ESX servers them selves get disconnected. And only two out of the 8 have this issue.

ON further debuging, we found that from any other server in the same subnet, we are able to ping to the server that was shows disconnected on the VI. The VI being on a different subnet is unable to ping to the disconnected ESX server.

Whats causing the ESX or the network to behave this way?

Thanks in advance

It sounds like an ARP issue in what- ever L3 device configured as default gateway for the ESX service console.

That would explain why other machines on the same subnet can reach it without a problem, when issue occurs.,,

Anyway to verify the ARP table on the L3 device?
