ESX 3.5 Upgrade to ESX 3.5 Update 2

Hi,

We have 3 ESX 3.5 servers and I wnat to upgrade to the latest version 3.5 update 2.

1. What download should I use from the downloads page?

ESX Server 3.5 Update 2 CD image Refresh

Upgrade package from ESX Server 3.5 to ESX Server 3.5 Update 2 Refresh

2. How to update? What utility?

3. What happens to all my configurations?

4. I heard about an Update Manager plugin. It seems that I don't have that plugin. Where do I install it from?

Thanks,

Haim Beyhan

You can download Upgrade package from ESX Server 3.5 to ESX Server 3.5 Update 2 Refresh and use esxupdate utility to upgrade. Or you can download the full iso image and boot your esx server using it and upgrade.

Third option would be to use the update manager (you need to have virtual center). To enable the plug-in in vc client go Plugins -> Manage Plugins. Install the update manager extension and from the installed tab tick it. Then go to scheduled tasks and run the VMware Update Manager Update Download which will download all the updates.

You would need to create a baseline for your ESX servers and then install the updates.

Hi,

Where is esxupdate utility found?

When I upgrade do all my settings are kept?

When I go to Plugins->Manage Plugins, I see Available and Installed tabs empty. What should I do?

Thanks,

esxupdate is found in ESX service console (login as root)

When you upgrade your settings will be kept.

Run the vc installation and install the update manager. it seems that you did not choose to install it during vc setup
