ESX 3.5 Update 4

Has anyone upgraded to ESX 3.5 Update 4? I am looking to do so and I was wondering if there were any issues with it and how to back out of it if the upgrade fails.

Which version are you upgrading from

Make sure to check H/W comatibility list

VC should be upgraded ad per requirments.

Our upgrade form 3.0.2 to 3.5 Update4 was breeze no issues on 18 ESX servers in production and 3 in LAB.

VC was upgraded before ESX upgrade from version 2.0.2 update 5 to 2.4 u4..no issues. Created sepeatre DB for Update manager. Kept 73GB free for update manager(depends on your requirements) We are planning to updrade ESX patches only and not Windows VM.

No issues..just make sure you have prereq met.

you should be fine. There is an update to the VMware guest tools in U4, so all your guest toos will go "Tools old"

At somepoint you'll need to update all your guests tools.....

Remember to upgrade first your VC (use U4 or U5).

Then you can use VUM to upgrade your ESX.

Be sure to have free space on Service Console partitions.

I just finished an upgrade of 12 hosts from 3.0.2 to 3.5 U4 and VC 2.5 and the only issue I had was migrating vm's from 3.0.2 to 3.5: to resolve it power down a vm (any) and migrate to the new host, power it up and migrate it off and after that your sweet.

Apart from that no issues.

Cheers and good luck 😃
