ESX 3.5 Support for the following...

Hi everyone,

I am looking to virtualize a couple of servers that are running older OS and apps. Due to some of the applications running, these versions cannot be updated or modified.

I am looking for guidance as to the support and compatibility of the following:

- Windows 2000 SERVER SP2

  • Microsoft SQL server 2000 sp2

  • Citrix 1.8

I have gone through much of the documentation online, but cannot seem to find a clear answer.

I know it will will most likely work, but is it officially supported by VMware?

Thanks in advance.

Windows 2000 SP2 isn't supported, but it may run.

Any reason why you haven't patched it to SP4 yet?

It is the OS that runs as a guest, the other apps should work just fine, if the OS runs fine and is supported. Win2k is supported.

Hey,

I looked through that doc and it shows Windows 2000 SP3 and up. That is why I am not sure if SP2 is officially supported as a guest OS.

The config I am preparing is for a client who relies heavily on vendor support. Last thing I want to do is propose a solution that will not be supported down the road when he needs it.

my suggestion would be, if possible, keep your OS level supported. If possible I would even go to W2K SP4.

Hello,

While the older OS may work they are not supported so use of them within ESX implies you are pretty much on your own. This forum will be helpful. In most cases the OS will work but the support will not be available.
