ESX 3.5 SAN connectivty

Hi

Have 2 new servers with esx 3.5 u2 installed. Connected to a SAN but i cant not see the luns in VC. Is there anything you have to enable on the servers to see the SAN luns ?

Have checked the zoning and it seems to be OK.

Am I missing something here ?

What king of SAN environment do yo have?

for example, with EMC clariion you'd do the following.

Install HBAs in host, Connect cables between host and switch, zone each HBA to each SP port, go into Navisphere and check the connectivity status to confirm that the zoning is working, either perform a manual HBA registration or install the EMC NaviAgent on the host, create LUNs, create a storage group, add LUNs and Host to the storage group, perform a rescan of the ESX host either from the VI Client-configuration-Storage adapters, or, from the service console # esxcfg-rescan vmhba? (? = each HBA as seen on the esx host), then add the storage via "storage-add storage".

that covers clariion but most Arrays are basically the same.

Paul

Have you scanned the SAN from vCenter or the Hosts, until this is done your hosts have no knowledge of the attachment

If zoning is OK check the masking by your storage device. Are the LUNS properly presented to your ESX hosts. This process is a little different for each storage vendor.

Are your HBAs functioning on your ESX hosts (Assumes FC)?

Hi,

You should also consider checking the BIOS of the HBAs , see if you are able to see the LUNs there. If you are able to see the Luns at HBA BIOS that means you have all the things like zoning , connectivity and Lun assignment correctly done. The next thing will be to check if your HBAs are identified in the VI client , if they are then do a rescan and create VMFS volumes on them so that you can see them as datastores.

Thanks,

kooltechies
