ESX 3.5 Network Setting Duplex

HI

I have notice an issues with PC talking to a our Data server (windows 2003 sp2) that run on ESX 3.5. HP DL585 G2,with 4 port intel 82546GB

If I set the PC nic car to half duplex it will log on faster the full duplex.

I was wondering if the ESX Nics are configured correctly

I have them set to 1000/Full.

VLAN Setting of Traffic shaping status disabled, Network failover detection = Link Status Only

Connected to a Cisco Switch 3750G set a auto/auto

Vswitch set to the following

Promiscuous mode = Reject

Mac Address Change = Accept

Forged Timeout = Accept

Traffic Shaping = Disable

Load balancing = Route base on the originating virtual port

Network failover Detecton = Link status only

Notify Switches = yes

Failback = yes

There have been some issues with the quad port network cards (searhc the forums for 1000PT I believe). You need to make sure you have some specific settings and patches or else some of the ports do not connect at the correct speed.

If you set to half and its faster then you are getting a half connection on the cisco side.

Verify what speed the cisco side sees then in the ESX service console type esxcfg-nics -l

This will tell you the speed of all the nic's on the ESX side...everything should match up...

Thanks for the information

I did check the network settings with the esxcfg-nics -l everything seems fine.

"I have them set to 1000/Full"

"Cisco Switch 3750G set a auto/auto"

It seems like you have hardcoded the Full setting on the ESX host.. Correct? Why... any issue with auto?

The network was set for auto before and now is fix at 1000/full still not change.

Had the network group hardcore the port speed to 100/full for the PC (DELL 270GX) plugs into seems to be faster Cisco 3560.

Wondering why expensive cicso gear needs to be hardcode and a cheap d-link work on full auto settings?

you should be able to Auto All Gig links and it should work fine.

100Mbit it typically best set to 100/full on both ends (especially with Linux).
