Datastore Problem by creating it..

Hi,

im having trouble to create a new datastore on a PowerEdge 2900III with an SAS Raid 5 (4TB). ESXi install was pretty good, the logon and use with virtual center client looks ok, but it is not possible to create a new datastore (the first). The problem is primary that the "new datastore wizard"shows me only 90GB free space but a capacity of 4TB. The system was configured with a raid5 with 6x á 750GB. It´s a PERC 6/I INTERNAL RAID CONTROLLER.

Then i loged via ssh and try the df command wich shows me this:

Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on

unknown 188336 120048 68288 64% /

unknown 552784 179200 373584 32% /vmfs/volumes/3abb47ef-875ea67c-c948-7bf6ff8d3c38

unknown 48927 1 48926 0% /vmfs/volumes/9d796a78-cbb0806b-7630-a3cddb3240d2

unknown 48927 37485 11442 77% /vmfs/volumes/e0bb2a79-0d5d2d65-30ec-192c9cd4d0f4

Do i have compatibilty problems here??!!

thanks for help-

The largest volume that ESX knows how to deal with for VMFS is 2TB. Try splitting your disks up with 3 disks per RAID5 set so that you have 2 volumes of < 2TB each...

Craig is right on target - the maximum LUN size is 2 TB - drop the LUN size and you should be good to go -
