DRS and load on service console

Hi,

Will DRS get triggered in the cpu\mem load increase on the service console because of any applications running on service console?

Thanks,

Prasad

The answer is yes it could trigger a resource balancing event for that ESX host.

VirtualCenter using DRS, manages all resources of a VMware cluster. The

memory and CPU resources of each individual ESX host become part of a global

resource pool that all VMs in the cluster can use.

Hi,

For your question the answer is yes, if the host is in a crunch of Mem and CPU resource DRS will be triggered.

Thanks

It should - DRS takes into account utilisation on the entire host. Load on the service console adds to the total load of the system, so if you have a CPU-intensive application on the SC, it will affect how DRS treats the system.

The SC's memory is guaranteed, so whatever amount you assign to it (maximum of 800MB) is a given; memory utilisation in the SC will not affect DRS.

Having said that, running resource-intensive applications in the SC is not recommended, as it will impact the duties of the SC and will therefore impact the performance on the host as a whole.
