Can anyone give me some advice on how to set the cpu mask on a HP DL580G5 with a 7340 Quad core processor to enable vmotion with 3 other DL580 G4's with dual core 7140M cpu's. I get an vmotion error presently referencing EAX. I know these 2 cpu's are not vmotion compatible but I hope I can mask them.....
...or maybe try this (nur eax)

:--::xxxx:xx:1--1:xxxx:xxxx
but only direct on vm first
ok well directly on the VM it works.... wonder why it doesn't globaly
Maybe you should restart the VC server service.
yes I already tried that doesn't seem to be loading the mask I dont think.
is there a way of checking if the vpxd.cfg has been parsed?
aha found a log file that told me there was an error in the vpxd.cfg file (</guestOSDescriptor> entry has a spelling error doh!) looking much better now. Doing some more testing.
All looking good so far. All test migration's succeeding without error.

Nice!
Does anybody know if I need to remove the manually entered CPU mask, from the templates and the existing VM's, or will the settings in the vpxd.cfg file work together / override those settings?
They way I read it is that they work together to create the appropriate mask. But because they would both be the same the effect would not alter. I can do test if you like and apply the VM mask to a test VM on my dev enviroment then attempt to migrate it to my live enviroment where I have now applied the mask globably?

That would be really helpful since I'm only having a prod. environment! Thanks!
ok as soon as I get into work I will give it a go. So give me a couple of hours and I will come back with ther result.
yep seems to work no problem at all. Good luck.
Great! I'll implement this on the next maintenance window. Thanks again!
