I'm relatively new to vmware and as I'm getting used to our current setup I find myself confused.
As I am logged into the VMware Infrastructure Client I click on Help and About VMware Infrastructure. It says the client is version 2.5.0 build 147704 and Virtual Center is 2.5.0 build 147633.
When I look at my hosts I can see they are VMware ESX Server 3.5.0, 176894
My question is, how do I go about updating my hosts and also VMware Infrastructure, if any.
I'm a bit confused because I've gone through a class for vSphere 4 and I'm trying to understand the differences between the two.
Welcome to the Forums - yes it is confusing ESX 3.5 and Virtual Center 2.5 are the previous version of VMware's flagship and were components of Virtual Infrastructure 3 also called VI-3 - with the release of the new version VMware is bringing everything up to a common version number 4 so ESX/ESXi is now versoin 4 - Virtual Center is now version 4 as well and has a new name vCenter - and are components of vSphere - liking anywhere with software updates you get better perfromance and new features like VMware Fault Tolerance, distributed switches, 8 vCPUs and 256 GB maximums for virtual machines -
