Cold migration fails

Hi All,

I have upgraded esx 2.5 to 3.5 ( not upgraded clean install the esx 3.5) and upgraded the empty SAN datastore to VMFS-3 and now cold migrating the VM from ESX 2.5 - VMFS-2 to ESX 3.5 VMFS-3.

Ii is taking very long time and failing error is "An error occured while communicating with the remote host" and some time "operation time out".

VM is having 10 GB of disk taking time but migration going successfully but which is having more than 15 GB disk having this above problem.

Any suggestion will be helpful.

Thanks & Regards,

Ravi

Hi,

Try right clicking the host on which the vm resides and click "Relocate virtual machine files".

I've never done this but believe this migrates vm's from VMFS2 to VMFS3.

Do you have a DNS server in the DNS domain your ESX servers reside in?

Thanks for the response..

Relocate option works only when ,VMs are there on the same ESX host means we are upgrading the ESX when all VMs were powered off.So after upgrading just right click on ESX host and relocate.

but here the VMs are running on other ESX (2.5) and on VMFS-2 volume and we have to move on esx.3.5 and on VMFS-3 volume.

DNS is already working and we can nslookup all esx host in our enviornment.

As I specified that VMs are migrating well which is having 10 GB disk size.

Thanks

Ravi
