Cluster Enviroment on ESX 3.5

Dear Sir,

I have following specification of server on which i have installed ESX 3.5.

My query is how can i create shared location and Resource location on ESX 3.5.

Server HDD = 500 Gb

RAM = 16 GB.

ESX3.x should not have used up all the space on a 500GB disk.  How did you partition the disk, it is a long time since I have installed ESX3.x but from memory you should have had something like this: -

/              ext3     5120MB

               swap   1600MB

/home     ext3     2048MB

/tmp       ext3     2048MB

/var         ext3     4096MB

/opt         ext3     2048MB

/boot        ext3     250MB

              vmkcore  100MB

This should leave you about 450GB for a VMFS partition on the disk to share amoung your virtual machines.

Shared Storage is needed.  You can use Fiber Channel, iSCSI, NFS

Dear Troy ,

I have 500 GB HDD on which i have installed ESX on complete space of HDD . Do you mean now i need another 500 GB HDD . ?

Can i use my shared storage from existing HDD on which i have isntalled ESX.

I have only one 500 GB SATA..

You mean now i need to format my ESX again and install it with your recommended partition....

Okay . After that can i make shared location on that and make Resource and Qurom DISK.
