I have been upgrading from ESX2.1.3 to 3.0.2 by cloning VMs from vmfs2 volumes to vmfs3 volumes. Until now this has been working well.
Last week I tried the largest VM so far (450Gb) and it failed at 42% after 2 hours of copying. (expected time to complete was 4.5hrs)
The error given was 'operation timed out'.
Has anyone else had problems with large cloning operations timing out?
Is there any way to clone a VM one disk at a time, so that a timeout doesn't waste so much time?
