Changing the MTU on the console Vswitch

Does anyone know how to change the MTU on the VSwitch. I need to lower the MTU in order to get the remote console to work. We are currently set at the default and I need to reduce it to 1300.

ifconfig vswif0 mtu 1300

or

ifconfig vmnic0 mtu 1300
