Change Physical NIC IP settings in ESX Server?

Good Day Folks,

I have set up 4 HP BL 480c Servers, each server is identical, each with 4 NIC's, each NIC is connected to a seprate subnet. I have managed to get them set up in a cluster HA/DRS configuration. They are connected to an HP EVA 5000 through fibre. Everything so far is working as expected except the following:

All NIC's except one are showing thier associated "Networks" information under the configuration\network Adapters tab in the VI client. The other Nic 'VMNIC1' that is connected to vSwitch1 does not show any IP information. When adding a virtual server to this configuration and assigning it an address in the appropriate subnet, and assigning this 'vmnic1' I do not get any traffic, I am assuming because the 'vmnic1' does not have a network associated with it. This is the same on all 4 servers. The lines have been tested and are good. The NIC shows that it is connected.

My question is this:

How do I change the network, IP, Subnet, Gateway, for this adapter?

The "Networks" information should, more appropriately, be called "Network Hints". It is just an indication of the IP address range of other machines on the same network as the Uplink adapter.

Also, the physical NICs in an ESX server really don't have IP addresses; they can be thought of as simply "dumb bridges", or uplink adapters.

Are there any portgroups (either Service Console, VMkernel, or Virtual Machine) linked to vSwitch1?

vSwitch1 has vmnic1 (Physical Adapter) on it. It is configured as a virtual machine port group. Attached is a screen shot of the configuration as it stands now. There are no VLANS configured for any switch.

Try either creating a new VM, and attaching its vnics to the portgroup on vSwitch1 or attach the vnic of an existing VM (if you have any) to the portgroup on vSwitch1 and see if you have connectivity.

My guess is that everything is good-to-go. The IP address ranges listed under "Networks" can be pretty quirky; they really don't mean anything.
