I tried to vMotion one of my VMs but it gave me a serial port error saying it needs to be disconnected. No big deal so I go to click on edit settings to disconnect it and lo and behold there is no Edit Settings option on the VM. I searched the communities and found nothing on this. Im kind of baffled by it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
does this happen on just the one VM or others? It sounds like a permissions issue. Can you log into the guests ESX Host as root using the VIC and edit the VM there?
Did you try to powered off the vm when you tried to edit it?
I know it should be editable while on but maybe the vmotion error screwed something up.

All of the sudden the Edit Settings came back. The host was still trying to enter Maintenance Mode, so I cancelled that. And the Edit Settings came back. Go Figure.
ah, yes. Probably if something was "in progress" all ready for that VM, you would not have been able to choose "edit settings"
