Cannot power on VMs on a specific Host

I have 2 ESX 3.5 host with VC 2.5. If I tried to power on a VM on one of the host, it fails with error: "The attempted operation cannot be performed in the current state (Power off)"

If I migrate them to the other host, it works fine.

I've checked the following:

- LUN space is fine

-Ressource are fully availlable

-Hosts are fully responsive (SC, putty, VCenter, etc)

I have checked forums for tips, but nothing seems to match my problem. Thanks for the help!

Try dis- and reenabling HA or removing and readding the host to the cluster.

Does not work.

When I look at the aam_config_util_addnode.log log, on the "failing host" it says that the other host has a state of Agen Failed while the other host says that both host are running.

On host 1

Node Type State

host1 Primary Agent Running

host2 Primary Agent Failed

On host2

Node Type State

host1 Primary Agent Running

host2 Primary Agent Running

Hi,

Have you tried directly connecting to the ESX host using the VI client as the root user and then controlling the VM power state?

This would isolate if the issue is a VCDB state to VMDB state mismatch.

Ok, thanks for the tips so far.

I've tried rebooting the host. I've removed the host from the cluster, but the HA configuration Issue error message still shows on the Summary tab of the host.

When powering on a VM when the host is out of the cluster works fine.

When replacing the host in the cluster, now VMs can be powered on.

But that HA configuration issue message still bothers me.

Ah! The fantastic power of thw reboot.

So far so good, everything seems to work correctly, I'll keep a close eye on it though.

Thanks for your help!
