Hey Guy's
My Boss gave me the job to Upgrade our ESX Server 2.5.2 to the new 3.0.2 with the Upgrade CD Downloaded from the VMware page. That worked fine but now i can't connect to the ESX Server with the VI-Client or the Webaccess, the only ways to connect are SSH and SFTP.
Have you any ideas what could be the problem?
EDIT:
i was never asked for the license during the update could that be the problem? Please help me

rt click the .vmx file of the machines not listed under the vmfs folder and see if it gives you the option to "add to inventory". Sounds like they got de registered.
Have you tried restarting the relevant services:
service mgmt-vmware restart
service vmware-webAccess restart
hey thanks for your response,
yeah I tried that a few times but without any success, i get emediatly the response can't display page.
If i try:
ill get connection refused on port 80 and 443 but it seams to work with 902.
i allowed all the firewall connections with:
#esxcfg-firewall --allowIncoming
#esxcfg-firewall --allowOutgoing
but still the same results?
what could that be?
Is rebuilding the host an option? I don't want to sound like copping out but it might actually be quicker than diagnosing this - I've had a couple of weird problems with upgrades and now only do clean installs...
Hmm I know now that it's definatly not a firewall problem, is there anything else that could cause that?
where do i find the webservice?
Have you run the command "service webAccess status" to check that web is running?
well when i run the command "service webAccess status" it responds me unrecognized service
but when I execute "top"
it shows me lot's of services called webAccess
what does this mean?
thanks for all your help
Can you post the output of the following command please:
"lsof -i|grep web"
And I typo'd my last post - command should be "service vmware-webAccess status" :smileyalert:
Cheers
Well that's the expected output...
Can you tell me a bit more about your environment please? How many hosts, was the pre upgrade perl script run before the upgrade, was the SAN connected during the upgrade, and any general info on the infrastructure...
Thanks
hey
i executed
vmware-hostd
then i could connect with my webbrowser and with my vi-client
but know i don't see all my virtual machines only 4 of them
but thanks anyway
Well glad you've got your access back... How many virtual machines should there be? Are they located on local storage or SAN?
hmm i thing about 12 or 15
they are all located on the local storrage i have no SAN
Can you see the vmdk files on the vmfs partitions?
hey
it's half past 8 in the evening where i live
thanks for all your help, I will check this tomorrow
Have a nice day or evening
hey dude
yeah the .vmfs files are still on the server
