Can only choose flexible network adapter

I have converted 3 windows server 2003 vms. Two of them came from a Vmware server beta 2.0 and one that came from a friend of mine, and I am not sure what system it came from. The teo that was from VSb2.0 is windows server 2003 standard, and the unknown one is a windows server 2003 standard R2.

On the two from VSb2.0 I have the AMD PCINET family adapter with only 10 mbps and on the third there is a vmware accelerated AMD adapter with 1.0 gbps.

I am not able to choose another adapter for the two. Can only choose flexible, when trying to add a new adapter.

If the conversion was from the Vmware server, uninstall the tools, and re-install the tools from ESX.

To convert the AMD PCnet to the VMXNET (flexible) simply install the VMware tools.

as oreeh indicated you will need to install vmware tools - this contains the driver for the 'vmware acclerated adpater' a driver designed ot work in the virtual environment - and will give you the best perfomance - in addition it also replaces the scsi drivers with virtualized versions

Hello,

Within the 'Edit Settings' of the virtual hardware you can only choose the Flexible adapter. You have to manipulate the driver on the VM to get other drivers.

PCNET32 Device-- Do nothing on the VM, do not even install VMware Tools

VMXNET - Install VMware Tools and on next reboot you should have the vmxnet driver unless you specifically did not install it, or changed its status in the Tool-Tray icon.

e1000 - Modify the .vmx file directly.

Uninstalled the vmware-tools and reinstalled them. I let vmware converter install vmware tools during the conversion. Seems that those vmware tools wasnt the right ones.

The guests have now the accelerated adapter.

Thx

Hello,

It is best not to have VMware Converter install the tools. They often have to be redone.
