CPU Mask for dummies, a question

Hello,

I'm testing with VMware ESX 3.5 using two old servers I had lying around. Using Openfiler as back-end (iSCSI) storage I'm also trying to do a vmotion of a running system.

One server has a PIII proc, the other a PIV, when I'm trying to vmotion I get:

Host CPU is incompatible with the virtual machine's requirement at CPUID level 0x1 register 'eax'.

host bits: 0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:1111:0011:0011

required: 0000:0000:0000:xxxx:00xx:xxxx:xxxx

I've read the KB 1993 and whatever Google was able to find, but have not had any luck getting a working mask.

Is there a "CPU mask for dummies" article somewhere to would provided a process to get this correct. Or maybe even a standard mask that will cause performance trouble, but will allow Vmotion tests

All info welcome!

You either didn't enable the Virtual Extensions on that host, or the cpu for this VM is set differently than the other VM's.

Hi,

If Virtual Ext = VMWare Tools, they are installed (I seem to remember it throws a different error if they are installed, about heartbeat missing?)

How do you mean a different CPU set in the VM? The two servers have different CPU's. And it's on VM I try to move
