Black screen booting VM with RDM

Hi,

I've got an issue with a few VM's running windows 2003. I have implemented VMWare's Site Recovery Manager and want to setup the drives (currently using MS iscsi target) as RDM's. I made these changes over the weekend and had to reboot a VM today. When I rebooted it, it came up with the initial splash screen and then at the point where you'd get the grey background and the login box would appear, the screen just went black.

This is due to the RDM, because if I remove the RDM Hard drive and reconfigure it using iSCSI, the server comes up fine. Since I didn't have time to deal with troubleshooting this now, I've made this adjustement to get things up and running again. I'm planning on contacting support this week when I have more time.

In the meantime I thought I'd see if anyone has run into this type of issue before? The servers are all ESX 3.5 Update 4. And I set the RDM's as physical. Some servers don't have this issue, but the two I needed to reboot did. Oddly enough, they did not have this issue after I initially enabled it.

Thanks

If you add a RDM disk your PCI order may change and some network card can change their config.

Check network configuration entering in safe mode with network support.
