I use Commvault to backup my ESX servers and it works well. Everyday I see entries like these in my backup log:

Like most backup software during an incremental backup, Commvault first scans the system and compares the scan to what has already backed up in previous days. It then only backs up what has changed. Between the scan stage and the backup stage a few files have disappeared from the ESX server thus generating the error messges shown above.
I can easily exclude the /var/run/vmware/hostd-fifo directory from the backup but did not know if there are important files in this directory I need to backup. Are there?
Those hostd fifo connection are steamed socket connections, that will change, from time to time, and will do you no good to restore. I think that is a safe directory to exclude.
