Backing up Esx's Configurations

Hello,

Im using Esx 3.5 U3 I wanted to understand how should backup the esx's configuration so if anything will happen to it i could recoverd the configuration as is ?

Hi,

This has been discussed many times on the forum. Basicly most people don't backup the ESX server configuration. It is very easy to reinstall the ESX host and configure it as it was as long as you have documented your setup.

I agree.., and in addition to good documentation you could just put together a scripted installation for each ESX host so if a failure occurs and you decide you want to do a clean build then it takes less than 10 minutes to rebuild the ESX host using the script.

Hi Zvikavi,

As my colleague pointed out it might not be necessarily to backup the COS. Nevertheless I would suggest to backup the /etc folder & /home if you still used it, to have a copy of the most important configuration files for ESX just in case.
