Areca drivers, Initialization of vmkernel failed, status 0xbad001e

I was able to get ESX 3.5 Update 5 to fresh install on my Areca RAID controller with a boot CD from Areca.

However, I am unsure if the driver made it to the installed OS.  I get the "Initialization of vmkernel failed, status 0xbad001e" error when trying to boot normally.  Some Googling said to try turning off the CPUIDlimit, but I can't get the service console to work, it just reports Error 15:  File not found.

I have attached the error logs.

/boot seems to be the only information that I'm able to see when I hit C at the grub prompt.
