Are my CPUs not 64bit compatible with ESX 3.0.1?

Hi.

I have run the CPUid checking on both of my DL585 G2 servers and get: rev CPUID: 0x40F12 on all the CPUs along with yes on all 64bit matters. I have the newest BIOS set to support AMD Virtualization and I have even installed Windows 2003 64bit R2 on one of them to check if it installs what it does without a problem. I'm still not able to get a 64bit OS to boot on ESX 3.0.1. 32bit versions work fine. Anyone have a clue what might be the problem here?

You can find some useful hints

Try setting the BIOS as described in kb article.

Look for compatibility guide issues.

Thanks for the answers. I've checked all this but I'm still not able to boot a 64bit OS within ESX. Can I somehow from the CPUid: 0x40F12 figure out the revison of the CPUs I have?

Found here :

http://tracker.linuxbios.org/trac/LinuxBIOS/browser/trunk/LinuxBIOSv2/src/cpu/amd/model_fxx/model_fx...

it seems socket F so compatible.

Did you check all of your hardware (raid controller for example is supported?)

Yes, the controller is a P400 and it is on the list. I'm still not able to install any 64bit OS. They simply will not boot. I have tried ISO's, client-connected DVD/CD-drives and ISO's from the vmfs both locally and from the SAN. Very strange if the only solution is to reinstall two fully functional ESX servers just to get it to accept 64bit installations! (Hint given by a friend) Thanks anyhow.
