Applying Zonning Config

Hi,

I would like to add a new HOST to my VMWare environment. Can we modify the zonning and applying the change on the fly? Do I have to shutdown all the VM or it wont affect them at all?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I expect that you mean Zoning on Fibre Chanel switches. I'm expierienced with Brocade and McData Switches. When You are using these switches the answer is yes. You can make changes in zoning on the fly without disruption of data connectivity.

Maybe could depend on your SAN / Switches configuration

But usually, creating new zones for your host hba ports and disk array ports does not disrupt access from other hosts.

Regards.

Yes its on brocades switches. I need to add an ESX host and a Windows server(VCB) to the zoning. I'll probably do it off hours but would like to let the 200 VMs running.

Thanks for the input guys. Smiley Happy
