Add a Virtual cluster node to an existing clustered server environment

I'm working on a project to add a virtual server in our ESX-3.5 enviroment to an existing Microsoft clustered server group.. Is there a way to create a virtual HBA to generate a WWN to conect to an existing Lun on our san to see the data allready stored there but not distroy the data when connecting to the lun.

. (San is fiber connected to our IBM blade center now)

Hi,

You have to use NPort ID Virtualization (NPIV) to generate a WWN for your VM.

You also can use Raw Device Mapping (RDM) to connect an existing LUN into the VM, without destroy any data.

the Option for NPIV is greyed out.. it references the RDM disk.. see attached

There are some specific requirements to using NPIV

· It can only be used with Raw Device Mappings.

· You must have NPIV aware FC switches

· ESX(i) hosts must have HBA’s that support NPIV. This is currently limited to QLogic and Emulex with NPIV compatible firmware

So, you need to attach the LUN into the VM as a Raw Device Mapping.
