Accessing the mob using an account other than 'root'

Folks

Has anyone successfully configured an account to access the mob (ie: http://server_name/mob) that actually works and thats not the 'root' user ID?

For the life of me even though I give the user account the same permissions as root it still does not work. I figure its file level permissions but unsure of what they may be (my knowledge of linux is not as good as it should be)

Any help would be really appreciated,

If you use VirtualCenter you can use any user defined on your VirtualCenter host (also active directory users) if you give them the right permissions. Just access to http://virtualcenterip/mob. It will also provide a better view of your farm since VC has a wider view.

Hope this helps.

Folks, an answer for you all;

Create a service account you wish to use to access the MOB

Login to the ESX server through VI client.

Right Click on ESX server hostname and select "Add Permissions.." tab.

On the dialog that comes up, select "Administrator" in the drop down menu on the right hand side. On the same dialog click on Add.. button on the bottom left.

This shall bring up a dialog listing all the current users created on the host. This list should have the service account listed too.

Select the service account from the list and click on Add..button. This shall provide the selected user "Administrator" privileges.
