8MB Block size with 1.95TB LUN, but VMDK file cannot extend more than 1TB, why?

We are using ESX 3.5 U5a, and we just created a LUN of 1.95TB with 8MB Block size, so we can allocate 1.5TB vmdk to one of our WINDOWS 2003 R2 Ent x64 virtual machine as per customer requirement, during expansion of drive from our VI client, we were unable to expand more than 1 TB of VMDK file, as it was throwing us out with error : "A General system error occured: Internal error" we were able to expand it to 1Tb, but even if we go more 20Gb more than 1TB we get this error,

do we need to do any changes on VM or Host or SAN LUN datastore to accomdate more than 1TB?

No Snapshots are sitting in datastore, we donot use them in our environment,

Please suggest,

Hello.

You will need to use vmkfstools to accomplish this - check out kb 1008528 for more information.

Good Luck!

Thank you VMRoyale,

let me try this on other Test VM, since this was a production VM, we are not suppose to touch it,

we really appreciate your quick response,
