3rd Party Software to replicat LUNs and VMs

Hi All,

I´am looking for sotware to

1. replicate the VMs to another vmfs

and

2. to replicate a complete LUN to another LUN an the same host or to another LUN on another VI3 Host

It can different Products.

I didnt want to use vizioncore Products (please dont ask why)

I`am looking for other Products.

DoubleTake and VizionCore are the only products that attempt to "replicate" VMs on ESX server that I am aware of. The in no way replicate entire LUNs as you specify in your second request.

If you want to replicate data within VMs, then your choices open up to all of the vendors in the data replication space, including SteelEye (my company), Vertitas, Neverfail and XOSoft among others.

I am not currently aware of anything that will actually replicate VMFS filesystems w/o replicating the whole LUN at the storage array or controller level.

For #2, you may want to take a look at your storage vendor's array-based options (CA from HP, SRDF for higher-end EMC gear...) Depending on your setup, it would handle #1 as well.

If your goal is to replicate the virtual machine data files, and you don't want Vizioncore products, look at esxpress (http://www.esxpress.com/) from PHD consulting. You could use it to back up the virtual machine files to another LUN on the same host, or shoot them over to another host.
