vcbMounter error: filesystem corrupt

ESX 3.0.2 / VCB 1.1

We can successfully complete a VM Image backup; however, when we attempt to do a file-level backup with VCB, vcbMounter returns an error that the filesystem is corrupt. Anyone seen this behavior?

Ken -

I have not seen the error myself, but I figured I would offer some suggestions that you MAY have already tried....

I would assume the filesystem corrupt message shows in your logs, so if you set the loglevel to 6 (which you probably have already done) you may get a more clear clue.

I would also assume that this means the guest filesystem. Maybe run a chkdsk to see what comes up? How about a defrag?

Maybe cloning the VM will "fix' it? At least it will give you a non-prod system to play with.

Another thing you can try is to restore the fullvm backup to a test environment and see if it can be duplicated. If it can, then I would definitely look at the guest filesystem.

Dave,

Thanks - been there, done that Smiley Happy

Also made sure that the host type was the same for ESX & the VCB Proxy. Odd...I had the customer open a support ticket w/VMware.

Yeah, I figured you pulled out that "Chalice of Knowledge" and tried everything. Post back when you figure it out and at least mark the question as answered...
