strange folders/files appearing in my /vmfs/volumes/storage1 dir

I seem to be getting weird directories

<VM-NAME>_1

and files

*.sf

in my /vmfs/volumes/storage1 folder

all of the VM are copies from another VMWARE server (esx3.0)

some I used vmware converter (shermanVM a win2003), others

engrwww I just scp(ed) over (a linux server). Has any one seen this before?

Hi..

If you, for example, unregister a VM and then create new VM with the same name on the same LUN the folder will be named VMname_1. (in cases where you want ESX to create a new .vmx file for an existing VM, this is usally what some people do)

The .sf files represent the LUN's metadata, which you do not wanna mess around with

The .sf files contain VMFS filesystem information. Don't delete them!!!

Thanks guys, when I rename engrwww or engrwww_1 and try to reboot the VM it balks so it somehow is using both VM'S?

I would think that's because one dir contains the VMs .vmx file and the other one contains the .vmdk disk(s)

Unregister the VM from inventory. Move the .vmx file to the dir with the .vmdk files... Re- register.

Thanks I will try that , any Idea how this happened? I have a folder engrwww that I scp(ed) over to create this VM I then create a new vm and use the custom option to get the VMconsole to recognize the vm this seems to make the engrwww_1 dir and put the vmx file there. obviously I am going about this the wrong way any hints
