Hello,
I'm wondering now that Swap files reside within the VM's folder, is this still interesting to have a local VMFS?
I'm very interesting in your comment regarding local partitioning.
in advance I thank you
Eric
It depends.
It's no longer essential but I still find myself creating this on every server. Mainly because the disks you get these days are so large that you'll always have about 60GB spare once the server's installed.
It's useful if you wish to dump any ISO files or templates etc. Also there are occassions where you might wish to backup a VM but not have available storage on a SAN.
I do not since I am able to put all my iso's on nfs, works great for this. I normally make /var huge just in case...
A local VMFS partition is useful for many purposes. As mentioned you can use it for storing ISO files, backing up guest VMs and you can even use it to store templates.
If you have space left over you may as well make use of it by creating a local VMFS partition even if you have no intention of using it (it's not going to cause any problems by being there).
