kickstart & VLans

Is it possible to do a network scripted install where the nic you are doing the install through is attached to a trunk port. i.e. can I specify a vlan ID in the esx install boot process ?

Yes you may specify a vlan at the installation stage.

at the network configuration screen.

That sets the VLAN id for the service console during the setup. I need to set a vlan ID during the initial network boot so it can access the kickstart script which is on the network.

I'm afraid you can't.

You could possibly use default pvid to the "installation network" to evade tagging and make your installation possible. (after that tagging, network esx vlan configuration is "easily" done through kickstart scripts/post-installation)

Hope it helps

Whilst searching for a solution to the same problem, I found the following post which I thought I should add to this thread for future reference.
