issue registering a cloned vm

Hi All,

I am running ESX 3.0, 27701

I made a copy of a vm. Changed file names, edited files etc.

Now I am trying to register it from command line.

I used:

vmware-cmd -s register /vmfs/volumes/47138796-ba82ec34-6919-001aa03c8ef7/svrvm-pv-tfs/svrvm-pv-tfs.vmx

the response I get is:

/usr/bin/vmware-cmd: Could not connect

(VMControl error -14: Unexpected response from vmware-authd: 510 Could not execute /usr/sbin/vmware-serverd)

I checked and in /usr/sbin/ there is no trace of vmware-serverd

I have done this in the past (quite some time ago) and did not have issues. Is there another way? Am I missing something?

Have you changed the MAC address of the new VM? And also the UUDI?

A simple way to do it is use VIC to register the VM, then try to start it and you will prompt to a question to keep configuration o generete a new one.

I cleared the entries in the vmx file but the issue here is that I get that error when trying to register.

I can only run VIC 2.0 and I don't know how to register a vm from there, I had only done it via the command.

Browse the datastore (ESX Summary, right click on the datastore), the select the folder of your VM, and register the vmx file (with right click).
