vmware -v shows VMware ESX Server 3.0.1 build-39823.

I am getting the same build# on another esx machine where it doesn't show missing or wrong packages. Does this mean I am ok with this server or Do I need to correct this wrong packages?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I get the same thing.

I do not KNOW the answer, however, I would infer the issue is here:

3.0.0-27701 17:58:58 04/26/06

3.0.1-32039 10:24:05 11/03/06 Full 3.0.1 release of VMware ESX Server

The packages/rpms shown as missing appear to be device drivers related to the 27701 release of 3.0.0. I'm pretty sure there were new/re-released drivers at release 32039 of release 3.0.1

I think the output is an "error - non-error" where it is actually just telling you the old 27701 rpms are gone, having been replaced by the 32039 versions.

The 39823 version output is correct given the patching you've done.

At least that's what I'm thinking about my servers, and therefore I'm not worried about this phenomena in the least.

This is more than likely caused by applying patches out of order.

This may or may not cause you any issues.

I would personally re-apply the patches in the proper order using the --force option.

did you upgrade the host from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1? if yes, the following 'missing' packages are normal:

VMware-esx-drivers-scsi-aacraid-1.1.5-27701

VMware-esx-drivers-scsi-lpfcdd-v7xx-7.1.14-27701

VMware-esx-drivers-scsi-mptscsi-2.5.16-27701

VMware-esx-drivers-scsi-qla2200-v7xx-7.4.0-27701

VMware-esx-drivers-scsi-qla2300-v7xx-7.4.0-27701

Wrong or duplicate package versions:

kernel-source-2.4.21-37.0.2.EL.27701 (duplicate of 2.4.21-37.0.2.EL.32039)
