cdrom / floppy device type

Hello all

We noticed some errors with VMotion and discovered we have quite a few hosts with Floppy and/or CD connected to a host or ISO. We would like to ensure all are connected to the Client Device so we have no interruption with VMotion.

Does anyone know how to possibly change these setting from the CLI?

Thanks

I don't know how much of VMworld '08 has been released to the public that didn't attend, but either the lab or the lecture about powershell one of the main examples was how to search for all the VM's that had a floppy drive or CD-ROM drive connected and then disconnect them in prep for VMotion. You might want to see if you can access those notes. Also if you post the question on the PowerShell boards, there are people there that can whip that script out in no time flat.

You will want to use the VI-Toolkit to help you with this task.

Check out my blog and VMworld 2008 persentation to help you get started.

This link has two great examples.

You can also schedule your powershell scripts so that your daily operations run smoothly.

One other issue that I encountered was caused by a p2v using VMConverter. The cdrom was shown to be connected to "ATAPI" not /dev/cdrom. To fix this issue I had to connect the cdrom to the Netware tools iso and then back to /dev/cdrom this was done in case Windows had autorun enabled on the cdrom.

Hi,

I am using this amazing little utility: RVtools

http://www.robware.net/

It is free, allows you to track CDroms, snapshot, free VM server disk space and many other useful things,

they are just asking for donation if all possible I think

I strongly recommend this tool, as I found it extremely useful
