Hello All
I need to rebuild ESX OS, so I want to know which raid mode is the best performace with safety for ESX OS?
Do not need consider disk capacity or numbers, Just discuss the performace with safety like raid 1 10 01 5 or 6?
Thx
Hi,
Almost SO's are running with RAID 1, this is the typical installation.
If you found this information useful, please consider awarding points for "Correct" or "Helpful". Thanks!!!
Do you use the ESX Storage as the storage for the VMs or just for the OS?
If its just for the OS a raid one should be ok.
Just for OS, not for VMFS

Hi,
How many disks?
Raid 1 is fine, it is not the most performant though.
Personally i prefer to run of SSD.. so it all depends.
If it is just the OS, it is not the most important anyways.. if it fails, just rebuild.
But of course if you want to minimize possible down time you do want redundancy.
More performant would be raid 10.. that would be preferred over raid 1, but it is arguably over engineering the basic needs.
If you have the time, then try rebuilding using a tool like UDA.

Hi, Wila
I have 6 disks now, so I want to know best performance for OS.
Thx~
Hi,
RAID 10 with as many spindles as you can.
The reason i asked for amount of disks is that raid 10 requires a minimum of 4 disks as you probably already knew.
