What does 'Relocate VM Files' do?

In my VI Client 2.0.1 there's a menu under the vm tree saying 'Relocate VM Files'.

Found a short description in the help 'The Advanced option in the Relocate Virtual Machine wizard, which is accessed from the main VI Client window, lets you change the location of individual parts of the virtual machine, including the working location'.

But, when I press it, nothing happen. How to use it?

I think I need to relocate some virtual machine files cause at the moment for example my 'productionserver' vm files are stored in productionserver directory, but the vmx file for that virtual machine isn't stored in productionserver directory but in a 'newproductionserver' cause a vmdk corruption last week so I created a new vm same as the productionserver and moved only the vmdk file descriptor in 'productionserver' to restart my vm.

So does 'Relocate VM Files' do what I need?

How to solve the problem of having vmx and vmdk files in different directory?
