What PCI-e video card with DVI output will work with ESX 3.5?

I wonder what kind of PCI-e (x16) video card will work with ESX3.5?

Is there any guideline like what kind of chipset will work with ESX3.5?

By the way, will below CPU/MB work with ESX3.5?

- Intel E4500

- Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L (P31 chipset)

Many Thanks,

Take a look at the compatibility guide... if you want to run on supported hardware...only use hardware from the list.

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi35_systems_guide.pdf

I only see S or SR series MB's on the list..not the E4500 but it might work..

Thanks.

The system HCL only list out the brand name, server model and it doesn't give out the detail of CPU, mother board (mother board chipset).

My other quesion is regarding the PCI-e video card with DVI connect, any one knows if it works with ESX 3.5?

Thanks,

VMware used to maintain a list of community supported hardware configurations that work with ESX located here: http://www.vmware.com/resources/communitysupport/

Unfortunately they stopped updating that list last summer. That could have been of some practical use to you.

I have not tried using ESX with any DVI video cards. I guess I would have assumed that video would pass through just fine in VGA mode but what a waste of good hardware for running that low of resolution through DVI.
