Vmware ESX 3.0 on a Dell 2400 with a Mylex Extremeraid 2000?

Hello,

Let's start VMware is completly new to me, however I'm very interested and learning is always good!

Here's my config:

Dell Poweredge 2400

Dual pentium III 866

2 Gb ram

5x U160 10000 seagate 36GB

Mylex Extreme raid 2000 controller

Iwant to install Vmware esx 3.0 however just after the installation Vm asks for a driver, however the device for which the driver is needed isn't mentioned. I looked up that my mylex controller isn't supported.

Is there a way around this driver problem? I read that you can compile a driver from a linux driver. So I already downloaded these drivers and now I'm thinking what should I do?

I'm completly new to linux/vmware

Your best bet would be to get you hands on a Raid Controller supported on the HCL.

Hello,

Check out http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_io_guide.pdf. THe only supported mylex is the Accelraid 352. Only those devices on the HCL are truly supported. I would not use anything not there.

Best regards,

Edward
