VmWare Enterprise Licensing

Hello,

I have two servers quad core each with only one physical processor.

In this case how many licenses of VmWare Enterprise do I need to purchase?

Best Regards

They only sell it in 2 processor bundles so you would need 1 license of 2 sockets

If I understand you correctly I'll only need to get 1 license of VMWare Enterprise Which will be valid for my two servers, right?

In theory yes. I have not tried connecting an ESX server with only one CPU socket to the license server but the logic says it will work

I've done this at a customer site and can confirm it works fine. One 2 CPU ESX license can be used to license two single CPU hosts as long as you are using a license server based license.

I believe what you propose doing will work, however I also believe it's not a legal way to license the servers. ESX has a 2 (physical) processor minimum requirement, and doesn't allow for a single license to be split across multiple servers. I'd dig up the leagalese but I'm feeling lazy.
