Following an ESX 2.5.2 -> 3.0.1 upgrade, the existing virtual machines are not showing up in the inventory. Volumes have already been upgraded from VMFS2 to VMFS3.

Are you using VC?
Browse the datastores to the .vmx file - right click it and choose to add to inventory

Not using VC, but the right click and add to inventory worked like a champ.
