VMotion networking.

We are planning to use ESX blade servers attached via FC to a SAN. Each blade will have a FC HBA plus 2 gigabit NICS.

The first NIC in each blade will be used to connect VMs to the network.

Am i correct in thinking that for VMotion the ESX system requires its own gigabit network? So this takes care of the second NIC.

Is this correct, I can't seem to find anything concrete about the separate network for VMotion in the documentation?

Yes, this is the best pracitse. Also, VMotion should also be in a different VLAN.

One more question.

As well as VMotion, does the service console need its own physical NIC or can it share the one connecting the VMs to the network?

It can share.
