VMKCORE Partition

Hi

Accessing the local storage properties of the the ESX server via Virtual Infrastructure Client lists the following partitions :-

Primary Partitions:-

1. Linux Native, 2. Linux Native, 3 .VMFS, 4. Extended.

Logical Partitions:-

5..linux Swap, 6. Linux native, 7. VMware Diagnostic (99.00MB)

Does ESX list the vmkcore partition as "VMware Diagnostic" in the storage properties page as listed above ? I have attached a screendump.

Thankyou in advance

I.P

ESX shouldn't list it at all - but it does coincide with the usual build sizes.

Hi

The reason that I am asking is because I am not sure if I did create a VMkcore partition, and was searching around the file system via ssh on the service console, but I can't find anything that corresponds to the vmkcore partition, apart from what I have posted in this message.

Can anyone tell me how I can locate the vmkcore partition.

Thank you

You can NOT start an ESX if it does not have a vmkcore partition - so you must have and based on the size that VMware Dignostic is probably your vmkcore partition -
