VM migration / hard drive upgrade.

I have esx server 3.0.1 I on a box that I need to add more space to, However the bays are full so I need to replace hard drives.

I know I can backup the VMs with vmotion, which I don't have a license for.

Is there an easy way I can backup the VM's some are netware so I can't use the conversion utility, (unless recent update works for netware old ones didn't) and restore them after I replace hard drives?

thanks

There is a vmware conversion bootcd but it's only available for the enterprise versions. You can always shutdown the VMs, and use FastSCP to copy the files to another server til you upgrade your physical hosts.

As per the hosts, you will have to verify you can upgrade the box without destroying the server.

The server will be effectively destroyed because I have to replace the hard drives, they are in a raid.

which is why I want to backup the VM's to migrate to effectively a new server install.
