Hi,
Appologies if this is the wrong forum, but I couldn't see a dedicated VCB forum and this was the next best selection (in my head :-).
The way I understand NBD mode, we don't need any direct connection between the SAN and the VCB proxy - ie an iSCSI interface on the iSCSI network.
Assuming this is correct, from the Backup Exec InteroperabiIity Module I run the following command from C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Consolidated Backup Framework\backupexec:
browse-start.bat ESX_VMFS_001 SVR-BES01_VM
But get the following error that I should be grateful if anyone could shed any light on:
Error: Error while opening disk ha-nfc://[mosaicesxdr] SVR-BES01_VM/SVR-BES01_VM_1-000002.vmdk@svr-pitesx01.int.mosaichomes.co.uk:902!52 7d cc 8b d5 39 59 87-2e 6b bb f4 18 e7 c8 1d: A virtual disk could not be opened. -- Cannot open disk file: Error : Disk library failed (The operation completed successfully). Unable to open 'ha-nfc://[mosaicesxdr] SVR-BES01_VM/SVR-BES01_VM_1-000002.vmdk@svr-pitesx01.int.mosaichomes.co.uk:902!52 7d cc 8b d5 39 59 87-2e 6b bb f4 18 e7 c8 1d'. Failed to configure disk scsi0:0.
This command is supposed to mount the VM disks into the C:\mnt directory on the proxy that will allow me to add these VM to the backup job.
The VM's that we want to back up are created by PlateSpin Power Convert and the backup broxy, backup server and VIC server are all on the same physical box if this may make a difference.
I've attached the full log file.
Many many thanks in advance.

You cannot install VCB and Virtual Center on the same server. They have incompatible virtual disk drivers. You must install VCB on a separate server. I would not put converter or platspin on the VCB server either. If you are short hardware, make VC a VM and use the physical for VCB.
Take a look at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_vm_backup.pdf or http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35/vi3_35_25_vm_backup.pdf
